Some History
The AK-47, officially known as the Avtomat Kalashnikova, is a gas-operated, 7.62×39mm assault rifle, developed in the Soviet Union by Mikhail Kalashnikov. It is the first firearm of the Kalashnikov rifle (or "AK") family. 47 refers to the year it was finished. In early 1949, the AK-47 was officially accepted by the Soviet Armed Forces[9] and used by the majority of the member states of the Warsaw Pact.
After seven decades, this rifle, and its variants, remain the most popular and widely used rifles in the world because of its reliability under harsh conditions, low production costs, availability in virtually every geographic region, and ease of use. The AK-47 has been manufactured in many countries and has seen service with armed forces worldwide.
East Germany received a license from the Soviet Union in 1957 to produce the AK-47, but production didn’t start until 1959. East German 30-round mags are all of the "First European Ribbed Type" and are generally known for the excellent quality of their salt blued finish.
