The wooden nightstick or “baton” was a standard-issue tool of authority—used for crowd control, patrolling, and detaining disorderly personnel. Typically made from hardwood such as ash or hickory and fitted with a leather lanyard, these batons were carried in leather loops on the MP’s belt.
