M.A.’s replica Post WWII Vietnam Era dummy 60mm M2 M49A4 high-explosive mortar round is an accurate, high-quality reproduction of the original 60mm mortar shell with the added extention. Constructed from solid plastic resin molded from original inert M49A3 and extention components, the round assembles in four screw-together sections: the main body, tail-fin and 2" extension assemblyand M525 Aluminum fuse with Safety Wire. The main body is finished in authentic Olive Drab and can be supplied with the correct stencil data if desired.
Choose from new (crisp) or aged (weathered) finishes and with or without data markings to best fit your display or restoration needs. This replica is an essential piece for museums, vehicle restorations, film and theatrical prop departments, reenactors, and collectors who want authentic appearance without the hazards or legalities of original ordnance.

Historical Background
The U.S. 60mm mortar traces its roots to the late 1930s, when the Army adopted a licensed design from French engineer Edgar Brandt, resulting in the M2 Mortar. Compact and dependable, the M2 became a cornerstone of infantry fire support through World War II and Korea, earning a reputation as a rugged and effective light weapon.
By the Vietnam era, this proven design evolved into the M49-series, culminating in the M49A4—a refined version using a tailfin extention and M525 fuse. The M49A4 provided fast, accurate fire support where artillery couldn’t reach, giving American and ARVN troops a vital edge in close jungle combat.
Serving well into the 1970s, the M49A4 carried forward the legacy of the original M2, remaining one of the most versatile and respected infantry mortars ever fielded—the true “infantryman’s artillery.”
