Product Description

This is a faithful dummy reproduction of WWII US Army Air Corps 37mm Double Star M56 Signal Flare.  The Double Star Flare had 2 Green "Stars" or colors with a Red tracer color during its illumination.  This is indicated by the colored bands and data on each shell.
It is made out of a durable solid colored plastic resin with Brass or Tin/Silver colored rim cases.  These look true to the real thing for any WWI display or impression.

These are ideal for costume designers, reenactors, Cosplay or museum displays that need the authentic look, when the real thing is illegal, too expensive, or too valuable to use.  An affordable reenactment item.  *Pictured Flare Gun is for display purposes only.

 Some History

The M8 Pyrotechnic Pistol was the standard 37mm signal flare launcher used by the United States Army Air Force and US Navy during WWII.  During WWII, there were a variety and types of shells developed for signaling.  Some had full metal Tin or aluminum casings while others had carboard casings, with different metals used for the rim case.  An assortment of colored flares were used by the airmen and ground crews to communicate different types of needs or emergencies.  Some of these were; wounded aboard, radio out, gear malfunction or other types of in-flight emergencies. This would give the appropriate emergency ground crews and aircraft controllers a heads up as to what to expect when the aircraft touched down. This type of pistol and flares were used by crews during a water ditching situation to signal rescue vessels or aircraft from a life raft.
