Historical Background
The 7.92×57mm Mauser, commonly known in the United States as the 8mm Mauser, was one of the most important military rifle cartridges of the 20th century.
Developed in Germany and adopted in its improved form by the German military in the early 1900s, the 7.92×57mm became Germany’s standard service rifle and machine-gun cartridge through World War I and World War II. It was used in some of Germany’s best-known military firearms, including the Gewehr 98, Karabiner 98k (K98k), MG34, MG42, and Gewehr 43/K43.
Because of its widespread military use, original 8mm Mauser ammunition and its associated clips, belts, bandoliers, and packaging have become an important part of historically accurate military displays and reenactment equipment.
