Historical Background

The Walther P38 is a 9mm semi-automatic pistol developed in 1938 by the German arms manufacturer Carl Walther GmbH. Adopted as the standard service pistol of the Wehrmacht at the outset of World War II, it was designed to replace the more complex and expensive Luger P08, whose production was slated to end in 1942.

Manufactured from 1939 to 1945, the P38 became one of the most widely recognized sidearms of the era, valued for its reliability, double-action trigger system, and innovative safety features. After the war, production resumed under various designations, including the P1, and several post-war variants remained in service with military and police forces around the world for decades.
